GERMAN SHORT ROWS IN GARTER STITCH knit up to & including the stitch that will become the short row (which would be the equivalent of the stitch that's wrapped in the W&T method), turn work, slip the first stitch and take the yarn over the back and pull it very tight. Then knit remaining stitches as directed, keeping the first stitch after the short row at a tight tension. When you come to knit across the short row you will see that the stitch appears to have two legs (the result of pulling the stitch right over the needle) - simply insert the needle and knit both legs together as if they were one stitch. There's also a PDF tutorial on my website to go with this, should you prefer. And next up there'll be a video for grafting across German short rows in garter! #woollywormheadtutorials #instavideo #learnitwithwoolly #garterstitchftw #shortrowsftw #shortrows #germanshortrows #garterstitch #knitstagram #knittingtechniques #knittersofinstagram
GRAFTING GERMAN SHORT ROWS IN GARTER STITCH the one thing I really like about grafting German short rows is that they're a lot easier to graft than wrap & turn short rows - simply treat the double stitch as one stitch when grafting, just as you would when knitting across it! It also doesn't matter whether the GSR are one the front or back needle, as they're easily visible and there's less of an issue about RS vs WS. This is ridge high garter graft - insert needle into 1st stitch on front needle knit-wise, pull through & slip off; insert needle into 2nd stitch purl-wise, pull through & leave on. Repeat on the back needle (garter graft = do same on back needle as front). Voila! #learnitwithwoolly #instatutorial #instaknit #knittingtechniques #garterstitchftw #graftingftw #grafting #garterstitch #shortrowsftw #germanshortrows #shortrows #knittingvideo

REPAIRING A DROPPED GSR IN GARTER STITCH if you've found yourself needing to undo short rows in garter stitch using the German short row (GSR) method, you may have found yourself unsure how to put that nifty little stitch back together the right way. By pulling apart a GSR we can see that it's comprised of a stitch (to the left) & a loop (to the right) (Also: this loop is essentially the wrap in the w&t method); with the stitch sitting one row below the loop. To put them back together as a GSR we need to slide the stitch into the loop... we start by passing the loop over the stitch but instead of letting the loop drop over the stitch we hold onto the base of the stitch with the left needle & grab the top of the stitch with the right needle, then carefully pass the top of the stitch back to the left needle, taking the top of the stitch *behind* the loop. You may want to watch this a few times to get the motion, & I promise it's worth the effort! • #learnitwithwoolly #instavideo #woollywormheadtutorials #knittech #garterstitchftw #knittechnology #shortrowsftw #shortrows #germanshortrows #instaknit #garterstitch #woollytutorial #knitstagram #knittingtechniques #knittersofinstagram
CHANGING COLOURS IN SCOURIE we've put together this little clip to show one possibility for changing between the yarns at the short row points in my Scourie pattern. You don't have to do it this way & the best advice I can offer it to try a couple of methods & see what works best for you. I will say though that you don't want to pull the yarn too tight! Sure, you want to take up the slack but if you pull too tight you'll affect the other stitches around the short row point & it'll end up looking untidier... even tension is the key. Also, don't beat yerself up if there's a tiny hint of the other yarn at certain points in the short row forms - unless they're very loose they won't notice overall. . #woollywormhead #learnitwithwoolly #woollyhatseason #scouriepattern #instavideo #instatutorial #knittingvideo #knittech #twocolourwork #shortrowcolourwork #shortrowsftw
