Description

Bobble Beret is a slouchy beret, worked in the round from the bottom up. It starts with a stocking stitch rolled brim. The body features lines of bobbles spread evenly around the Hat, which continue through the crown.

M1: pick up the horizontal loop before the next stitch, place it onto the left needle and knit into the back of it

p2tog: purl next 2sts together

SSP: slip next 2 sts knitwise, then purl these 2 sts together through the backs of the loops

MB: Make bobble. K into back of st, K into front of st, K into back of st, K into front of st [4 sts] turn, K4, turn, P4tog

How to

Using Cable Cast-on method, cast on 80 [88, 96] sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Place stitch marker to indicate start of round.

Brim

Now work Stocking Stitch in the round (knit every stitch) until work measures 2in/5cm then work increase round once as follows:

Inc Rnd: *P2, M1P; rpt from * to end [120, 132, 144 sts]

Body

Rnds 1, 2 & 3: Purl all sts

Rnd 4: *P11, MB; rpt from * to end

Rnds 5 & 6: Purl all sts

Repeat these 6 rounds 4 [5, 5] times in total, then work Rnds 1 to 4 once more.

Crown

Rnd 1: *P10, p2tog; rpt from * to end [110, 121, 132 sts]

Rnd 2: Purl all sts

Rnd 3: *ssp, P9; rpt from * to end [100, 110, 120 sts]

Fold I-cord in half and stitch down at crown centre. Weave in all ends. Gently block by laying flat; encourage bobbles to sit comfortably.
