Well, with keeping up with tradition, here's a look back at 2015 in Hats!
From top left we have:
2015 saw my tenth anniversary; a whole 10 years of blogging as Woolly Wormhead, and a whole 10 years of designing Hats (it also saw myself and Tom's 10th anniversary).
To celebrate the 10 years we had a brilliant blog tour with some of the friends and colleagues I've come to know over the years. Tucked was our special 10th anniversary KAL, and that proved extremely popular!
In addition to the single patterns, I also published Painted Woolly Toppers and I really enjoyed working on these.
From top left:
20 Hats in total for 2015, which is less than I thought! 2014 saw 14 new designs, 2013 saw 17 new designs, 2012 saw 27 new designs;. 2011 saw 35, 2010 saw 34, 2009 saw 14, 2008 saw 24 and 2007 also saw 35, with 2006 at 30. (2005 saw 4 which was the first year)
2015 was also the year in which I needed to go up a gear and get business back on track after the awful years we'd had previously (2014 in particular was rough, with the eviction order, Aran falling critically ill and my own health suffering). I wrote some pretty open and revealing blog posts about our financial position, to try and bust the myths around how much designers earn and be upfront about how bloody hard it is to earn a living in a creative industry. On The Issue of Money was the key post, and one to remember. (you might wish to bear in mind what I said about The True Cost of a Pattern when reading this)
And it's working; I'm kinda feeling like I'm getting back on track. Let's hope 2016 proves as productive?
(oops - I just found this saved in my drafts and I'm trying to slot it into the right date/time. How did I miss this? Oh yeah, I was busy building the new website)
