PREPARING SLIPPED STITCHES ON GARTER STITCH FOR GRAFTING this video is mainly aimed at the #circledhats patterns, which use this method to help keep the lines of slipped stitches continuous. Please refer to the PDF tutorials that come with your pattern for a more detailed explanation! The key to getting this right is to ignore the wide loop sorta stitch that's revealed by the slipped stitches after the provisional cast-on is removed, and instead to focus on the two legs that form the V directly below. Having picked them both up, ensure the right leg stitch is orientated as shown, otherwise the graft wont work. Give it a full twist to the left/inwards towards the centre of the slipped stitch, and all other stitches, including the left leg of the slipped stitch, are orientated purlwise. Then refer to the 2nd tutorial to see how to graft these stitches. #learnitwithwoolly #instavideo #woollywormheadtutorials #knittingtutorial #knittinggeeks #graftinginpattern #graftingftw #videotutorial #knittingvideo #videotutoriais #hatknittersunite #sidewayshats #sidewaysknithatsftw #woollywormhead
SLIPPED STITCHES ON GARTER STITCH IN THE ROUND I love a good slipped stitch against garter stitch, and they're worked a little differently in the round than flat. Work the slipped stitches on the purl round (garter stitch in the round = alternating rounds of knit and purl) - purl up to where the slipped stitch will be, take your yarn to the back, insert your needle as if to purl then slip the stitch purl-wise (to maintain orientation), bring yarn to the front again and purl the following stitch as directed. On the knit rounds knit the slipped stitches as normal, or for a more decorative effective knit them through the back of the loop. Slipped stitches like this can be the perfect disguise for the jog that occurs! #learnitwithwoolly #instatutorial #videoknits #knitteachersofinstagram #slippedstitches #instaknit #knitstagram #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #garterstitchftw #garterstitch #knittingtechniques #knittingtutorial
GRAFTING SLIPPED STITCHES OVER GARTER STITCH this video tutorial is mainly aimed at the #circledhats collection, and you'll want to have seen the previous video (preparing the stitches) and also reference the PDF tutorials that came with the patterns/eBook. When you're at the point to graft the slipped stitches (as indicated in the PDF tutorial) work: knit off, purl on on the front needle, knit off, knit on the back needle; purl off, purl on on the front needle then purl off, knit on in the back needle. Only work these steps for the slipped stitches, otherwise work the other stitches as a garter stitch graft - more tutorials on my website under the Grafting section in Tutorials . #learnitwithwoolly #woollywormhead #instavideo #instatutorial #knittinggeeks #sidewayknithatsftw #graftinginpattern #graftingftw #kitchenerstitch #sidewaysknitting #knittech #knits #knitstagram #igvideo #igknitters #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #woollywormheadtutorials
SLIPPED STITCH SELVEDGE FOR GARTER STITCH a great decorative edge that can be worked along one or both edges of garter stitch when working flat. It also looks great when combined with slipped stitch columns on multi-directional pieces. Knit to the last stitch, bring your yarn from the back to the front, slip the last stitch of the row purlwise (I.e. slip from left hand needle to the right) then turn your work. Knit the first stitch at the beginning of the next row and carry on knitting to the end! Don't forget that if you're working this selvedge on both edges to stop one stitch from the end and repeat. There's a photo tutorial PDF on my website to accompany this video. Enjoy!
