GRAFTING SLIPPED STITCHES OVER GARTER STITCH this video tutorial is mainly aimed at the #circledhats collection, and you'll want to have seen the previous video (preparing the stitches) and also reference the PDF tutorials that came with the patterns/eBook. When you're at the point to graft the slipped stitches (as indicated in the PDF tutorial) work: knit off, purl on on the front needle, knit off, knit on the back needle; purl off, purl on on the front needle then purl off, knit on in the back needle. Only work these steps for the slipped stitches, otherwise work the other stitches as a garter stitch graft - more tutorials on my website under the Grafting section in Tutorials . #learnitwithwoolly #woollywormhead #instavideo #instatutorial #knittinggeeks #sidewayknithatsftw #graftinginpattern #graftingftw #kitchenerstitch #sidewaysknitting #knittech #knits #knitstagram #igvideo #igknitters #knittersofig #knittersofinstagram #woollywormheadtutorials
GARTER STITCH GRAFTING this is an easier graft than stocking stitch, as you treat both needles the same! You'll want to make sure that your stitches are prepared correctly, as unlike stocking stitch, you can't just bring them together and go. This example is ridge high, where there are bumps butt up to the front needle and Vs at the back on the right/outward facing sides - a more thorough PDF on my website will help you with this stage. Then simply knit off, purl on on BOTH needles. If you have ridge low, work the opposite (purl off, knit on) REMEMBER your stitch and needle set up is the key to a successful graft! #learnitwithwoolly #instatutorial #instaknit #knittingtechniques #knitteachersofinstagram #knittingtutorial #garterstitchftw #garterstitch #grafting #graftingftw #knittingvideo #woollywormheadtutorials
PREPARING SLIPPED STITCHES ON GARTER STITCH FOR GRAFTING this video is mainly aimed at the #circledhats patterns, which use this method to help keep the lines of slipped stitches continuous. Please refer to the PDF tutorials that come with your pattern for a more detailed explanation! The key to getting this right is to ignore the wide loop sorta stitch that's revealed by the slipped stitches after the provisional cast-on is removed, and instead to focus on the two legs that form the V directly below. Having picked them both up, ensure the right leg stitch is orientated as shown, otherwise the graft wont work. Give it a full twist to the left/inwards towards the centre of the slipped stitch, and all other stitches, including the left leg of the slipped stitch, are orientated purlwise. Then refer to the 2nd tutorial to see how to graft these stitches. #learnitwithwoolly #instavideo #woollywormheadtutorials #knittingtutorial #knittinggeeks #graftinginpattern #graftingftw #videotutorial #knittingvideo #videotutoriais #hatknittersunite #sidewayshats #sidewaysknithatsftw #woollywormhead
GRAFTING REVERSE STOCKING STITCH this is the exact opposite of regular grafting (Kitchener) for stocking stitch! Front needle: insert needle purlwise, pull through & slip stitch off; insert needle knitwise, pull through & leave stitch on the needle Back needle: insert needle knitwise, pull through & slip stitch off; insert needle purlwise, pull through & leave stitch on. To create the selvedge stitches, start with knit, on (front) then purl, on (back). Work as above until you have 2sts left then purl, off (front) and knit, off (back). . I'm planning a "Kitchener Diaries" for the blog - all sorts of tips & trips for grafting. I've got loads of material already, and I figured folk might find it useful (grafting is one of my favourite things, after all!) #learnitwithwoolly #graftinginpattern #graftingftw #instavideo #knittingtutorial #knittingvideo #grafting #knittingtech #knittingtechniques #woollywormhead #woollywormheadtutorials
GRAFTING GERMAN SHORT ROWS IN GARTER STITCH the one thing I really like about grafting German short rows is that they're a lot easier to graft than wrap & turn short rows - simply treat the double stitch as one stitch when grafting, just as you would when knitting across it! It also doesn't matter whether the GSR are one the front or back needle, as they're easily visible and there's less of an issue about RS vs WS. This is ridge high garter graft - insert needle into 1st stitch on front needle knit-wise, pull through & slip off; insert needle into 2nd stitch purl-wise, pull through & leave on. Repeat on the back needle (garter graft = do same on back needle as front). Voila! #learnitwithwoolly #instatutorial #instaknit #knittingtechniques #garterstitchftw #graftingftw #grafting #garterstitch #shortrowsftw #germanshortrows #shortrows #knittingvideo
RIGHT SIDE vs WRONG SIDE - GARTER STITCH when you're grafting garter stitch, the set-up is uber important, & it's crucial to know the RS from the WS. When you knit a row of knit stitches, you create a row of 'V's sitting below the needle, and on the reverse of the Vs you'll find the bumps, or ridges (just as when you work a row of purl stitches, you create bumps below the needle). When you stretch garter stitch out and look at it closely you'll see that it isn't all ridges, but alternate valleys and bumps, Vs and ridges, and the WS is the exact opposite to the RS - they form a sort of concertina or zigzag pattern when viewed side on. Because RS & WS garter stitch can get tricky esp. when you consider reverse garter stitch (all the purls!) all #woollywormhead patterns refer to RS as "ridge low" and the WS as "ridge high". Knowing how your garter stitch behaves is such a help to getting your graft right! #learnitwithwoolly #igvideo #igknitters #instavideo #woollywormheadtutorials #knittinggeeks #knittingtutorial #garterstitch #garterstitchftw
