Introducing Rennie

We'll be hitting the road tomorrow, heading off towards Knutsford for a trunk show and workshop at Fibre + Clay, then on to Purl City Yarns in Manchester on sunday for another trunk show. A while back, when Riana at Fibre + Clay contacted me about the possibility of visiting again this summer, she also asked about perhaps releasing a new design while there, something special for the occassion, that would go into general release a short time later. Thinking this sounded like a rather fun idea, we went for it, and the resulting design is Rennie.

The design uses one 50g skein of Shilasdair Luxury 4ply, and luxury it is. The stitch definition is so crisp and clear, and the yarn is so very, very soft, and the resulting Hat is a winner. I thoroughly enjoyed knitting with it, and I doubt I'm alone in that.

The inspiration for this Hat comes the Art Deco period, especially the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The stemmed leaves grow out of the gentle picot brim, and graduate up the body and towards the crown, where the stems integrate with the shaping. Subtle, considered and effective.

As always, there are a range of sizes - to fit 19 (21, 23) in/ 48.25 (53.25, 58.5) cm and the pattern is provided in both written and charted format. There is one chart for the motif, and another for the motif section of the crown shaping.

Rennie will be available for £3 at the trunk show this weekend, and then from this website early to mid August. I believe Riana may have kits available, too.

I seem to have built a bit of a reputation for my Hat clinic (phrase coined by NicsKnots, thanks Nic!) and its something everyone seems to love - and why not, who doesn't enjoy trying on Hats?!
