Indeed, it's that time of year again! And this one will be our 4th annual Mystery Knit-a-long, with 2 great patterns for you. This is one event I've been saving my energy for, and having turned down a whole bunch of work to lighten my workload, this is one thing that wasn't going to change - somehow November wouldn't quite be the same without the Mystery KAL.

The webpage is live, the patterns are up for purchase (an intro file containing everything you need to know can be downloaded early) and talk of yarns and plans are already under way in the Ravelry group - there's a real buzz in the group! Since putting the patterns up for sale earlier *loads* of knitters have bought in and it's looking to be the best year yet with so many folks joining in.

Like the last 3 previous years, there are 2 patterns available, using varying techniques and of slightly different skill levels. Here's a quick run down of what each pattern requires, to give you a bit of a taster.

---------------------------------------

Pattern A:

This is the more complex of the 2 patterns, and is lacey and tam like in nature (think Ivydene) with a few cables for good measure. The pattern is easily adapted to make it more slouchy, should you prefer.

This pattern would benefit from a solid or semi-solid yarn.

Skills:

  • Knit & purl stitches
  • Knitting in the round
  • Increase and decrease technqiues
  • Cables
  • Lace
  • Alternate cable or tubular cast-on

  • To fit sizes: 19 (21, 23) in/ 48.25 (53.25, 58.5) cm
  • Finished sizes: 16.5 (18.5, 20.25)in/ 42 (47, 51.5) cm

Needles: 3mm & 3.25mm DPNs or circulars

---------------------------------------

Pattern B:

This is the less challenging pattern of the pair and is slightly slouchy in nature, like a slouchy beanie (think Castiel). Unlike previous KAL patterns, this one has no lace at all and is all about the travelling stitches.

This pattern can handle just about any colourway!

Skills:

  • Knit & purl stitches
  • Knitting in the round
  • Increase and decrease techniques
  • Travelling stitches
  • Alternate cable or tubular cast-on
